Highway 73 Wildfire Mitigation

Conifer Rotary proudly announces that we have completed thinning another section of dangerous wildfire evacuation route!

Thank you to LAM Tree Service and the community volunteers who cleared 30 feet from the east side of Hwy 73, all the way from US 285 to Barkley Road and the Yellow Barn. That's four properties!

LAM Tree Service removed 110 cubic yards of chips, more than twice its typical day's work.

Hwy 73 is one of our most dangerous evacuation routes due to the likelihood of a traffic jam with flames on the side of the road. Everyone on the west side of Hwy 73 can only exit the mountains using Hwy 73, along with many of the people on the east side.

Now at least there won't be flames immediately adjacent or overhanging our cars. The extra 30 feet also widens the fuel break that is the road, and makes the road safer for firefighters.

Conifer Rotary, with help from volunteers from the community, LAM Tree Service, Aplundh, and Lee's Trees have now finished our work from US 285 all the way north to Blue Creek Road, which is about the boundary between Conifer and Evergreen fire departments.

Thank you so much to everyone who helped!

Yes, we are looking to extend our work elsewhere. Next projects include: Hwy 73 north of Blue Creek Road, Pleasant Park Road and Hwy 126 south of US 285. The last two are being led by the people in those neighborhoods.
Pleasant Park Road neighbors will meet to discuss on Sept. 28. Email coniferrotarywildfire@gmail.com for details.

Also email us if you would like to start organizing your neighborhood to work on the major evacuation routes that  you'll need in a major wildfire.
