- October 24 is World Polio Day. Let’s celebrate.
- November 1, noon to 1pm is a virtual luncheon with RI President, Holger Knaack. Go to the District 5450 website to register. Guest speaker: Rachel Lonsdale of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Registration fee of $28, of which, $25 will go to support Polio +. Each $25 donation will be matched 2:1 for the Gales Foundation, helping vaccinate 125 children per registration. - December 5: Community Service Day for RI. Watch for announcement about our District project.
- There will be a competition between Clubs for membership attending Zoom meetings…more information to come. (we expect to win)
- We have made more than 9400 masks. There are 23 mask-makers in our group. Let Leonor know if you know of other schools that are in need of masks. Arana is taking our masks to Laredo Elementary in Aurora—they are very excited to be getting the masks---via a teacher friend of hers. Finn will share the information about this project with the District.
- Arana is donating play dough and little bubble jars for our back packs next week.
- Thank you to all the volunteers who helped at the 9Health Fair in Bailey last week. The 9Health representatives were greatly impressed with our mountain community response and our excellent volunteers!

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library
Sarah has been part of Evergreen Rotary for one year. She has taken the Dolly Parton Imagination Library as her special project.
“You can Never get enough books into the hands of enough children”...Dolly Parton The program was started in 1995 in honor of her father, who was very smart but never learned to read.
This is a gifting program available to any child from birth to age 5. Books are hand selected by a committee of early childhood experts to be age-appropriate and aligning with the child’s developmental needs. The children get a free book delivered to them every month. It encourages parents to read to their children.
During the pandemic, Dolly, via u-tube, has been reading books to children.
There has been research on Imagination Library that shows increase reading time with the parent and child. The children are reading better in school. Parents believe that their children are better prepared for school.
The Mountain Area Imagination Library Program: 5 area VIII Rotary Clubs participate to support the projectt. The coverage area: Pine, Conifer, Evergreen, Morrison, Bailey, Clear Creek and Gilpin Counties.
In our area this year so far, we have doubled the number of children participating: 260 in January—currently 498.
The Colorado Senate passed a bill to form a state-wide Imagination Library. The State will pay 50% of the monthly invoice from the Dollywood Foundation, with funds to start next summer.
There has to be an affiliate to promote the program. Rotary is that affiliate in our area.
The cost of the program for the coming year will be $12,000. This covers the mailing of the books ($2.10/child/month).We can donate via www.imaginationlibrary.com, then find our local Imagination Library on the site to donate. Our Club share is about 14% of the $12,000, based on our membership numbers. We will probably have to cap the number of children served in our area at 500, given the budgetary constraints this year. How can our Club help raise the money needed??!!!! Charlotte suggested writing a grant to the PCCP Resale-Boutique in Bailey---we would provide volunteer assistance for a month and receive up to 70% of the profits for that month. (other non-profits have received up to $3000 for their month)
